The Association of Water and Sanitation Utilities from different towns in South Sudan
These utilities realized the mutual advantages derived from the effective and systematic exchange of information and experience and mutual economic and technical cooperation in the provision of clean and affordable water to the communities resolved to establish an Association for us called the “Association of Water and Sanitation Utilities – South Sudan”, in 2021.
To provide a platform for members to advocate and undertake issues pertaining to water and sanitation service provision development and sustainability.
Develop and nurture strong and viable capacities for sustainable water service provision.
To facilitate an enabling environment through capacity building, advocacy, networking, partnership and promotion of best practices for efficient, effective, affordable and sustainable provision of safe water supply and sanitation services.
In 2010 Yei was selected to receive support from the German Government to improve the water supply and sanitation situation in Yei Town by a) setting up a commercially operating water utility and b) implementing a phased investment programme to extend existing water supply and sanitation infrastructure.
The Gumbo Water and Sanitation Company (GuWaSCo) is a publicly owned company that has been established and registered under the South Sudan Company Act in October 2020. The purpose of the company is to manage the water and sanitation infrastructure in the Gumbo-Rejaf area.
German Government has been assisting the Government of Republic of South Sudan in developing strategies for reconstruction and development of the Country. German has supported the water sector since 2006 through technical and financial cooperation, mainly through GIZ and KFW. The support started in Juba at national level, Yei, Yambio and then Torit.
The Torit Urban Water Supply and Sanitation Company (TUWSS) Ltd is a
newly established Company registered under the Companies Act 2012, of the Laws
of South Sudan as a private company limited by shares and owned by Torit
Municipality and Torit Town Block.
